The Last Harrah! (Or Hooray)
This is a sappy post and if you have never partaken in Emerson College Orientation, I apologize for this.
Today was unbelievably wonderful and incredibly bittersweet. For the final time, I moved someone into their first college dorm room (residence hall). After three years, and six orientations, I will never again be one of the first faces new students see when they get to Emerson College. I will never dance in the lobby of one of the buildings with some of the most caring and wonderful people in the world. I will never again go to the “airport” or “amoeba”. I will never again see David Coleman at the Cutler Majestic, or come back early to the school of my dreams to be with some of my best friends.
The last six orientations at Emerson College (and of course my own) have changed my life forever. I would not be who I am without Orientation. As I sit here, with a bag of frozen peas and carrots on my swollen knee, I can’t help but smiling. Today I have laughed the hardest I ever laughed, and have felt some of the greatest love and friendship in my life. I am just amazingly blessed.
I would like to thank all the wonderful members of Core Staff (past and present), any OL I have ever worked with, and all the RAs who do such amazing work.
To the Winter OLs-If you are reading this, I want you to let you know how much I love each and everyone of you as individuals. Working alongside all of you makes me want to push myself to be a better person everyday. You are all so compassionate and caring, and I envy your selflessness. I could not imagine finishing up my orientation experience with a better group of people. I cannot wait to hear where the orientation program goes from here.
To the seniors-Yo, we did it! Let’s rock the rest of Orientation and enjoy our “Grand Finale.” All of the love.
To Michael, Mady and Rachael. WE DID 6 ORIENTATIONS! I feel like yesterday was our first Winter O and now it is our last. I love you three to bits and pieces and I am so excited to say that I have a memory of each and every one of you from each orientation. Love you guys so much and can’t wait to enjoy the rest of this orientation with you.
To everyone else who read this through-major props.
Peace, Love and OL4Life,
Mari Mae
